Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
We believe that God accepts us as we are – no matter who we are, what we do, or how we dress. We do not have a dress code here at Christus. Worshippers wear anything from jeans/shorts and tee shirts, to slacks and golf shirts, to dress shirts and ties. Please wear whatever you feel is most comfortable and appropriate for you in this setting.
What about the kids?
We’re child-friendly here at Christus and are not bothered by the noise level they naturally generate. If you’d prefer, though, child care for infants and toddlers is available for your use during all services in our staffed nursery located directly across from the church entrance. Every Sunday the children are invited to come forward and sit and participate in a short children’s message. If you need to take your children out of the sanctuary during the service, you can still listen to the service on the speakers in the Gathering Area or in the Nursery. Rocking chairs are also provided for your use.
What can I expect at Christus?
Here’s what we’re about:
Reaching out to the un-churched and under-churched is central to our identity and mission.
An authentically warm, welcoming and caring community of believers.
Meaningful, upbeat and inspiring worship which emphasizes God’s grace. Excellent Christian music, especially our 10:35 a.m. “Rock’n with the Good News” contemporary combo, as well as our group of engaging song leaders we affectionately refer to as the “Giggers.”
An emphasis on ministering to youth, especially through our innovative “Faith Stepping Stones" program. Sunday School for 4 year olds through 5th grade runs from 9:30 - 10:25 a.m. between worship services. Confirmation instruction for grades 6-8 on Wednesday evenings, high school youth group called G2 that meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m., and annual summer vacation bible school, and mission trips.
An emphasis on inspiring and helping adults to continue growing in their faith walk with the Lord.
The presence of many creative, empowered, and involved lay members.
Will I be able to follow along with the service?
Yes, everything you need in order to follow the worship service will be shown on our multi-media projection screen in the front of the sanctuary. There are also song sheets, which include the musical notes, available upon request from one from the ushers.
Can I take Communion, and how does it work?
You do not have to be a member or pre-register to receive Communion. All who are baptized and believe that Christ is truly present in the bread and wine, are welcome and encouraged to partake of the Lord’s Supper. Youngsters need to have completed a course of instruction on the meaning of Communion. All young children and infants are invited to come forward to receive a blessing.
We offer communion every Sunday. The Pastor will announce when it’s time to come forward and receive communion. If you choose to participate, simply join the line in the aisle, and when you reach the front, you will be handed a piece of bread and the pastor or assistant will say, “The body of Christ, given for you.” There is also a gluten-free option for those needing that.
Next you are offered wine or non-alcoholic grape juice (located in the center ring of glasses), which has been poured into small individual glasses. With the wine or grape juice the assistant will say, “The blood of Christ, shed for you.” Drink it, and then place the empty glass in the basket, and return to your seat.
If you wish to take communion but are unable to walk to the front of the church, simply notify the usher, and the pastor will bring the bread and wine to you.
