Sunday School is for PreK through 5th grade
Sunday School is a bit different than described below due to COVID-19. Sunday School currently meets via Zoom at 10:00am Sundays for all grades. The lessons are also available on Christus' YouTube channel in the event you are unable to attend the Zoom. For more information, please contact Christine, the Director of Youth Ministry, at email@example.com.
A Bit About our Sunday School Program
We will be focusing on one main story, for 4 weeks.
Our Sunday morning worship services use the Revised Common Lectionary. Sunday School will use the Spark Lectionary curriculum from Sparkhouse. Pastor Jen will pick key Bible stories that she feels is important for our children to learn.
The children will focus on the story the first two Sundays of the month and engage in an activity that will reinforce the learning of the story.
The third Sunday will be Service Day. The classes will participate in a service project that also reinforces the life lesson they are learning from the Bible story of the month.
The fourth Sunday will be Listening Day. Children will review the story of the month one last time and they will have time to really engage in a spiritual practice from walking a labyrinth, journaling, praying in color, and more.
We understand that attendance is sporadic for our Sunday School families of the 21st century due to how busy families are and how many other things are being scheduled for families on Sunday mornings. Sundays are not set apart for the Sabbath anymore. By teaching the same story in different ways throughout each month, we hope to be able to capture more children and more learning styles of children.
In “Formational Children’s Ministry”, Ivy Beckwith wrote, “The act of becoming Christian is the actual practicing of begin Christian, over and over and over again. One does not become Christian by sitting in a room in a church hearing a Bible Story…but by being immersed in God’s story everywhere it is told, living with God’s people, and repeating the symbolic acts of the church, as well as repeating acts of loving neighbor and denying oneself, over and over and over again.” We hope this Sunday School format does just this and helps teach our children what being Christian is all about.
